ACS Group is a fire protection engineering and code consulting firm with offices in Austin, Boston, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City. We serve mission-critical and data center, battery and EV manufacturing, industrial special hazards, and combustible dust markets.
We pair hands-on engineering with computational modeling to deliver design that stands up to scrutiny, and we invest in our engineers' growth as deliberately as we pursue our clients.
We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Mission Critical located in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX (preferred) or a major U.S. data center market to lead the ACS mission-critical practice.
Why This Role Matters:
Mission-critical and data center work is one of ACS Group's fastest-growing markets, and we are building a dedicated practice to lead it. The successful candidate will own that practice, from pipeline and client relationships through the quality and on-time delivery of every engagement.
This role reports to the Vice President of Engineering, works closely with the COO on delivery capacity and strategic accounts, and will shape the team, standards, and reputation that allow the segment to scale.

What to Expect:
This is a dual-mandate role, weighted equally between business development and technical operations. Anticipated roles and responsibilities for this position include:
- Own the mission-critical pipeline, set the growth strategy for the segment, and carry the practice's revenue and bookings targets.
- Develop and deepen relationships with hyperscale owners, colocation operators, enterprise clients, and the design primes and MEP firms ACS delivers through.
- Manage partner relationships where service overlap exists, including commissioning scope, and resolve boundary questions before they reach a client.
- Lead pursuits, including proposals, fee development, scoping, and contract negotiation, from single-building assessments to multi-site portfolio programs.
- Represent ACS at industry events and through published thought leadership, and maintain mission-critical accounts in the CRM using the firm's strategic accounts framework.
- Serve as senior technical authority on detection and suppression strategy, including aspirating/very-early detection, clean agent, pre-action, and water mist trade-offs.
- Direct fire protection strategy for battery/BESS and lithium-ion risk, smoke control, generators, gas turbines, fuel storage and distribution, and modular and prefabricated structures.
- Lead the firm's code positions on NFPA 855, NFPA 75, NFPA 72, NFPA 13, NFPA 3/4, the IBC, and the IFC, and carry alternative means of compliance requests through AHJ approval.
- Direct CFD and computational modeling (FDS/Pyrosim and FLACS) to develop defensible, performance-based design for hyperscale and AI-focused developments.
- Plan resourcing across concurrent projects, mentor engineers and consultants, and lead design reviews as part of the firm's technical audit and peer-review program.
- Serve as Engineer of Record where licensure and scope align.
What We’re Looking For:
- Willing to relocate or must reside in Austin, TX or a major U.S. data center market, with the ability to travel to client sites, project sites, and industry events.
- Must have Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional states as project demand requires.
- Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- M.S. in Fire Protection Engineering preferred. 10+ years of fire protection and life safety engineering experience, with a demonstrable record in mission-critical or data center facilities.
- Deep working knowledge of NFPA 855, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, NFPA 75, the IBC, and IFC Chapter 12.
- Proven business development results, including pipeline ownership, client relationship growth, and revenue responsibility.
- Experience serving as Engineer of Record on complex projects.
- Direct experience with hyperscale or colocation owners and the design primes and MEP firms serving them (preferred).
- Performance-based design and computational modeling experience (FDS, Pathfinder, or FLACS), or the ability to direct a modeling team (preferred).
- Established AHJ relationships in major data center markets and experience building or scaling a practice area (preferred).

We are currently seeking a skilled Fire Protection Engineer/Senior Fire Protection Engineer located or willing to relocate to the Las Vegas, NV area to join the ACS team.

Fire Protection Engineer (Mid to Senior level) – Las Vegas, NV
What to Expect:
The successful candidate will provide clients with exceptional fire protection engineering and life safety code consulting services. Anticipated roles and responsibilities for this position include:
- Collaborate with other senior ACS Group staff with more extensive technical project-related tasks such as dust hazard analyses (DHAs), hazard mitigation analyses (HMAs), and performance-based design.
- Effectively communicate with project design team members, clients, and other project stakeholders.
- Lead the preparation of Fire Protection Reports, code analysis, and AHJ responses.
- Assess high-piled storage arrangements and develop associated reports for high-piled storage permits.
- Develop and oversee the design basis for fire suppression, detection, alarm, and mass notification systems.
- Conduct architectural drawing reviews to identify critical egress issues, along with the preparation of master egress drawings for various projects.
- Develop criteria and/or review design drawings and specifications of fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems for project bidding.
- Classify and quantify hazardous materials in accordance with the International Fire Code based on information provided by the client. Produce chemical hazardous analysis report based on findings.
What We’re Looking For:
- Willing to relocate or must reside in the Las Vegas, Nevada metropolitan area.
- Must have Professional Engineer (P.E.) in any state with the ability to secure a Nevada P.E. within six months.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and/or Civil engineering.
- Strong technical background.
- 4+ years of professional experience.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Experience using BlueBeam, AutoCAD and/or Revit.

The successful candidate will provide clients with exceptional fire protection engineering and life safety code consulting services. Anticipated roles and responsibilities for this position include:
- Perform fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, and performance-based fire engineering design for a wide-range of facility types in jurisdictions across the United States.
- Coordinate and conduct building and fire code reviews and analyses, including plan reviews and site visits.
- Classify hazardous chemicals and prepare hazardous materials inventory statements for industrial properties.
- Assess high-piled storage arrangements and develop associated reports for high-piled storage permits.
- Satisfy client needs and expectations by completing assigned tasks on schedule and within budget.
- Prepare and peer review of project-related technical reports.
- Develop fire protection strategies, performance-based design approaches, and alternative solutions to resolve client design issues.
- Effectively communicate with project team members, clients, and others.
- Assist with business development activities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical and/or Civil engineering.
- We will also consider candidates that have significant industry experience in fire protection, life safety, or code consulting but are not on the engineering track.
- EIT Certification preferred.
- PE preferred.
- Experience: 3 to 6 years of related experience.
- Ability to work well independently to meet deadlines and prepare deliverables to be peer reviewed.
- Upholds professionalism and is personable when interacting with other industry professionals, associated trades, and jurisdictional authorities.
- Strong communication skills to communicate clearly and concisely with others internally and externally.
- Must be able to coordinate with professionals across multiple disciplines internally and externally. Prior history with project management is preferred, but not required.
